This week we're continuing on our path of bringing yoga into everyday life with the idea of sauca (SOW-ch-ah) which is about moderation. You can check out tips and ideas over on Instagram.
I love sauca because it acknowledges how much better it feels to be clean and in a clean space. Not only does cleanliness help to prevent illness, it creates mental space to focus inward. Personally, I believe taking a shower to be one of the most magical things I can do to make myself feel better.
This niyama can also apply to the foods we eat. It can take some adjusting, but eating a light, clean diet (traditionally vegetarian, but that's really up to you and what you know about your body) is believed to be optimal for fostering a meditative practice since your body won't feel full and sleepy.
I challenge you this week to think about some area of your life where you could up your cleanliness game, even if it's just 10%. Maybe that's hanging your coat up when you get home instead of tossing it on a chair. Maybe it's brushing your teeth when you're feeling down. Pick something that seems really attainable and try it out.
Let me know how it goes!
